Euronews, which has its headquarters in Lyon, France, was founded in 1992. It is regarded as a very popular World News broadcasting service which reports from a pan-European perspective.
In 1992, the European Broadcasting Union decided to set up a European news station in order to provide a channel which would appeal to viewers who have, or want, to hear a European point of view on various important European and world events. To that end, it was founded by a group of 10 public European broadcasters. The first transmission was from Lyon, in January 1993. Later, in 1996, another broadcast studio was established in London.
The majority of broadcasts are from the Euronews headquarters in Lyon, however, the channel also boasts various worldwide bureaus in Washington D.C., Paris, London, Istanbul, Dubai, Doha, Budapest, Brussels and Athens.
